Are you getting married? Then write 12:01am at 1st May 2011 in your diary.
Sit at your computer, and get writing and planning – because if you are getting married between 1st October 2011 and 31st March 2012 – then you could WIN your Wedding Photography!

Here we have a little Question and Answer Session, which is also on the Competition Website where you will also find the Terms and Conditions.

Who are Blue Lights Photography?

Blue Lights Photography is a female, Award Winning Wedding Photographer from Barnsley, covering the Yorkshire area and beyond. Run by myself (Adele), I specialise in making images to treasure forever. Also a finalist for a Wedding Idea’s award within my first year of business, you can be sure of a great service.

Why are you running the competition?

I am running the competition to enable couples getting married from 1st October 2011 to 31st March 2012 to WIN their Wedding Photography. I believe that everyone should have images to treasure forever and most people who get married in the winter months, do so because they want to either have a beautiful winter wedding or their budget will not stretch to an in-season wedding. This can mean that a lot of people drop the idea of having a professional photographer, or they go for a photographer they can afford rather than want. Giving the opportunity for a couple to win an amazing £1200 of photography including an album means that they do not have to worry and that money could be spent elsewhere on the wedding.

What do you win?

As mentioned, the prize is worth over £1200, and includes a full-day of Photography from award winning Blue Lights Photography and a 10×10, 10-spread Italian Designer Album of choice from Album Epoca
Blue Lights Photography’s full day photography also includes the following:
•Pre-Wedding Consultations & Pre-Wedding Photoshoot
•Venue visit with Bride and Groom
•DVD slideshow of Pre-wedding Photoshoot and Wedding
•20 Thank You cards
•Travel expenses included up to 50 mile radius
•Online web gallery access & 100 postcards with access details for guests.

How do we enter?

All you have to do is email info@bluelightsphotography.co.uk with your names, wedding date and venue, and why you should win. Full Terms and conditions are available here.

When is the competition open?

The Competition is open from 12:01am on 1st May 2011 to 11:59pm on 30th June 2011 after which 3 people will be shortlisted.

How will the shortlist work?

The shortlist will be chosen by a panel of people from past and current brides, people with media connections and of course myself.

Who will win?

The shortlist will be announced and then we are actively asking people to VOTE!
This will be done on the Blue Lights Photography Blog. We ask that people do not vote multiple times for the same person, as this will lead to all your votes being pulled.
The winner will be the person with the most votes and will be announced on 1st August 2011.

Then what happens?

We will publish the winner, and will also go to local press with the winner (and shortlist) stories and pictures. We will also use online wedding blogs and websites to promote the pre wedding Photoshoot and the wedding after the Bride and Groom have seen their images.

It really is that simple! – If you have only provisionally booked your Wedding Date then you can still enter as long as it is within the months stated. People without a Wedding Date cannot enter.

Please make sure you read the terms and conditions over on the competition website – and good luck!!!

I get many requests from brides who want the “English rose” look, soft simple and traditional, it’s what every bride wants to be on their big day.
A lot of the time you find that people wear even less makeup on their wedding day then in everyday life.
To me it seems that we have set our minds to what the blueprint brides should look like. Ok so there is nothing wrong with looking au natural on the big day but it’s the biggest day of every girl’s life, so why not make heads turn.
We spend so much time looking for the perfect dress, sometimes we forget to put that same enthusiasm into our makeup.
This season is all about colour, subtle, bold and smokey. This doesn’t mean that you are going to look extremely different on your wedding day; it’s just about enhancing what you already have and making a little bit of a statement.
Let’s face it; it’s your day so let’s make everyone swoon over not only your dress!
As well as being a makeup artist I also do a lot of makeup personal shopping, so trust me, there’s colour out there for everyone, so i am going to recommend some which I find work the best.
These are just some of the great looks that are out there.

One of the biggest trends to hit the Bridal catwalks for spring/summer are Hot cherry toned lips. This can be anything from a soft pink gloss to a bold matte orange red, if you want to go for that retro look.

Skin is also a big thing for spring/summer. Wearing a soft sheer tinted moisturiser and teaming it up with a candy pink blush can create a modern spin on the soft bridal looks.

You can also team up smokey eyes with a clean skin look, using cream blush and liquid highlighters can create a subtle glowing skin, the perfect canvas for a sultry smokey eye.

For any woman finding a lipstick that you like is a pain.
Over the years i have worked for many makeup brands and this was one of the things I noticed women found the most frustrating.
All I can say is go with your instinct but be daring.
One of the best bold colours out there for the summer is Sciap by NARS cosmetics (pronounced Ski-ap if you want to ask for it).
It’s a statement colour but brilliant for a subtle look by just patting it on the lip for a hint of fuchsia. A great lipstick for everyone!
Whatever look you are going for remember to pick a focus, go bolder on one thing a keep the rest balanced and subtle to keep the look soft.
For any makeup look the most important thing when thinking about colour is makeup brushes!
It’s no good using those sponge applicators or a cotton bud.
Even if you just use 4 good brushes you can create a beautiful spring/summer makeup look.

If your blonde……

Lips

For those of you who have blonde hair I would recommend going for something warmer on the lips. Great tones for the spring are warm pinks and corals, a great pink tone is ‘Rose water’ by Laura Mercier, it’s a sheer stick gloss that gives a subtle pop of colour to the lips.

If you want to go for a bit more vibrancy then go for ‘Tangerine’ by Laura Mercier, a bold coral with pink undertones will keep your skin looking warm a peachy.
Both lipsticks look great with NARS Multiple Stick in ‘Orgasm’ for a sheer golden pink cheek.

If it’s a red you’re wanting to go for then try ‘Vintage red’ by Bobbi Brown, but remember to always use a lip liner with reds and make sure you get a consultant or makeup artist to match you to the right one!
Try a soft flesh toned blush with this tone of lipstick.

Eyes

If you want to wear colour on your eyes don’t be put off by the way eyeshadow looks in the palette. They are made to show the true pigment of the colour and what you could achieve if you wanted to.
By using a soft blending brush you can achieve a soft washed colour on the eyes with any eyeshadow.
Try Laura Mercier Finishing eye brush, it has small fibres to deliver a subtle wash of colour.

A great spring summer palette, Cap Farrat, comes from NARS cosmetics. Cap Farrat is launched for the new summer collection. It ranges from Subtle green to turquoise and a deep blue. You may think it sounds a bit much but as a wash of colour over the lash line these colours look amazing.

For a Smokey look I love using Rimmel colour mousse eyeshadow in Mocha. It’s a great eyeshadow to use with your fingers and then soften with a brush and it lasts! Go along the lash line with a slightly warmer plum toned shadow,
Don’t be afraid to use the colour around the whole eye, team this with M.A.C creamesheen lip glass in ‘boy bait’ and ‘Nectar’ shimmer brick from Bobbi Brown.

If you’re a redhead…

I find a lot of the colours that i use for ladies with blonde hair generally work for redheads too.
if you have a peachy complexion then you can go for cool and warm tones in your makeup.
If your skin is slightly on the pink side then you need to be careful in the tones you pick, there is no point in going for a pink blush when you already have pink cheeks naturally.

Lips
Make sure you are choosing colours that are suitable for your skin tone and hair colour.
Generally brown toned lipsticks are better suited to redheads; this applies to pinks, reds, and corals.
If you have a peachy complexion then you can go for a more blue toned statement red.
A great spring lipstick is Laura Mercier ‘Poppy” and Dainty doll ‘Material world”.

Eyes

Plums and purples look amazing with red hair; it gives a soft feminine look and it great for a smokey eye.
It’s one of the big spring trends for 2011 so you’ll find every brand will be launching a shade for you.
For a vibrant look try blue! Again this complements red tones and although it’s a bold colour it will sit very naturally.
Don’t worry you won’t end up looking like your old aunt whose makeup skills still haunt you to this day!
Try going for a deep cobalt blue rather than a soft sky blue.

If your Brunette……

Anything goes!
Brunettes can pretty much wear anything they want when it comes to makeup.
You can be bold and daring without really having to worry.

Eyes

There are some great colours out there and you have to pick of the bunch!
For a bold statement look try 50’s inspired black eyeliner with a flick!

A great way to get a good eyeline is to first draw on the eyelid with a kohl pencil, this allows for any mistakes and you can easily amend anything.
Once you are happy with your line go over with M.A.C ‘blacktrack’ fluid line, you need to apply this with a brush, I find it is a lot easier to control and to apply than other liners.
For a softer look you can always try another colour.
Be patient and remember it takes practice.

Lips
Team this look with a bright or deep colour lip.
For a bright colour try the Fuchsia ‘Sciap’ I mentioned earlier, it will give a fun girly feel to the look.
If you want to go classic then try ‘Cruella’ velvet matte from NARS.

If feminine is your thing then go for a subtle nude like ‘Nude beach’ from Clinique to get that Audrey Hepburn look.

The most important thing is to make sure you still feel like you!
Wearing colour on your wedding day doesn’t have to be scary. Make sure you go through everything you want with your makeup artist and that they fully understand your makeup needs as well as the colour theme you have chosen for your wedding.
Try different looks so that you are sure that you are happy with the final result.

And remember… if a bit of colour isn’t for you, there’s nothing wrong with the classic look.

Barcelona Bound – Multi Award Winning Experience Health and Beauty up for Yet another Prestigious Award
No downturn in the economy and global recession can stop the continued success of local health and wellness business Experience Health and Beauty!

Since opening its doors in October 2008, Experience Health and Beauty has gone from strength to strength, and it shows no signs of slowing down.

The One Stop Shop for all Health and Beauty needs has been nominated for yet another award and is in the running as “Best Newcomer” at The Skincare Sanctuary Awards in Barcelona this September. The owner, local entrepreneur Lora McCluskey and one of the therapists at Experience will be flown out to Barcelona, all expenses paid this September to learn if this West Dunbartonshire Business is to be awarded with this prestigious accolade.

So far, Dumbarton’s only Day Spa has been nominated and was awarded runner up in the Dunbartonshire Business Awards for Best New Business, nominated as the only Scottish Finalist in the Best New Salon category at the Professional Beauty Awards in London and also awarded the desirable 4 Star Salon of Distinction Award by Collin UK.

Spa Manager Lisa Thorndike commented on the continued success and puts it down to the professionalism and hard work from our team of talented therapists. She said, “the girls really pride themselves in their work and convey professionalism at all times. They instill confidence in their clients whilst building relationships with each and every one, existing or new. They work with their clients and listen to what they are looking for, then advise on the best possible treatment journey to address their wishes. They also have so much fun at work and enjoy working together, you can feel the positive atmosphere the minute you come in to Experience.”

Experience Health and Beauty offers not just the latest health and beauty treatments, but delivers a service far beyond that. It offers its clients a relaxation room, spacious unisex and double treatment rooms, a friendly and unique atmosphere and an experienced team of staff, readily available to advise and assist their clients. Experience Health and Beauty is a completely new concept in the area. The standards of service are exceptionally high, yet the atmosphere is extremely relaxed and friendly.

There is also a VIP Monthly Membership scheme which is proving extremely popular with its clients. The membership scheme offers clients the option to ‘join’ Experience and become a member of the Spa. Membership is currently £35 per month and for that, clients are credited with £50 to spend each month.

Multi-award winning entrepreneur and Managing Director of Experience Lora McCluskey said, “It’s just a great way for people to manage their money. Everyone needs to have the essentials done most months, and this way our loyal clients are rewarded by effectively receiving the equivalent to a 30% discount. It also encourages people to look after themselves and invest that valuable time in themselves that we all need. The difference that monthly treatments such as facials, massages, nail treatments, waxing etc can make to your wellbeing is enormous, and £35 is a small price to pay for this, especially when you get £50 worth of treatments to spend on yourself! We have also noticed a marked increase in VIP membership take-up among our male clientele, with our male grooming services expanding and becoming increasingly popular. We are going to be launching our New VIP Membership in April so clients are really excited about that.”

The plans for Experience continue to grow, with the owners looking for the perfect site for the next Experience Health and Beauty. In the meantime, the team at Dumbarton is focused on a busy Spring/Summer, looking after their clients and providing each and every one of them with an Experience, whether they are in for a quick eyebrow tidy or indeed for a full day of pampering.

My name is Tracey Phillips and I am owner, designer and maker at Bridal Designs Wedding Jewellery. The company was formed when, after working for many years in the jewellery retail trade, I decided to see if I could make jewellery myself and with lots of practice and instruction started to produce pieces that I was proud to put my name too.

My sister then asked me if I would make her wedding jewellery for her. I ended up designing and making many sets for her to choose from and wondered what I was going to do with the surplus! I decided to approach a few local wedding shops to see if they’d be interested in selling them for me and to my surprise they all said yes, after a while selling through shops I made the decision to start the website http://www.bridaldesignsweddingjewellery.co.uk and I’m glad to say it’s gone from strength to strength.

We specialise in handcrafted Sterling silver bridal jewellery using Swarovski crystal and Swarovski pearls. we have a wide range of different styles to suit every wedding from the delicate Angelic range to the darker gothic influenced Black Rose. Brides are choosing a wider range of wedding themes than ever before so we try our hardest to stock designs to suit all of them.

Our latest collection is the Wildheart which features a brand new crystal shape from Swarovski, the beautiful heart pendant has such a tactile feel and the facets make it eyecatching, especially when teamed with the oval Swarovski crystals and round Swarovski pearls. Another new addition is the LittleBigDay range, comprising of interchangable charms/pendants which make an ideal gift for bridesmaids or flowergirls.

At Bridal Designs we pride ourselves on our customer service and as every item is handcrafted we are able to accomodate a wide range of variations in colour and size, if you would like something completely different we can work with you to design a bespoke piece especially for you, just email us on info@bridaldesignsweddingjewellery.co.uk

Are you wondering what exactly is a wedding planner, and why do I need one?

1 – Guiding Hand through the process

Some people think wedding planners are there to take over the day, this isn’t true, I’m here to help guide you through and to be as involved or as uninvolved as you want, I wont be barking orders, I want to help you make the day a day to remember with your friends and family, whether in the UK or abroad.

2 – Experience

My wedding experience means I can think of unique ideas for your day, and also help you keep on track with things such as etiquette advice, I produce a inspiration board if needed to show you how your ideas will pull together, I can also take an idea like “Winter Wonderland” and with the aid of the board, show you how this can be done with style and unique flair.

3 – Someone to talk to when no-one else wants to listen

We’ve all done it, when you are newly engaged all you want to do is talk about weddings, when the big day is upon you, you worry about things that you may have missed, or what you need to do on the day, seems to clear a room sometimes, but I love to talk about weddings, not just the good, but the bad also, we all have fears on the build up, but I’m here to listen, and to help, anytime day or night, I’m there if you want to pick up the phone, or if you fancy a chat over a coffee somewhere.

4 – Stress Free, honest and calming influence

Even when things don’t seem to be going to plan, I’m here to help work around any issues that may arise and to keep you calm on the build up to your big day. I’m open and honest about everything, If I feel that something isn’t going to work, I’ll tell you, I wont wait till the day to say “Well I thought it wouldn’t work anyway” I help guide you through, There’s no problem that cant be overcome, take a big breath and relax, I’m here working for you.

5 – Budgeting advice

Although it would be fantastic to have a unlimited amount of money to spend on your day, the majority of people have a idea of what they can realistically afford to spend, many would love to ideally be under budget rather than over, your budget does not have to restrict you, a wonderful day can be planned for as little or as much as you want. For as many guests or for as few a guests as you want, I deal with all types of budgets, and can help you stick within budget, and also help you plan your budget effectively to get everything you dreamed of.

6 – Helping you pick the perfect suppliers for your day

There are a wealth of suppliers out there, who want to be part of your day, I match you with the suppliers who will be best suited, who I trust, and who I know will help work as a team to make the day perfect. I never take a commission from any suppliers, I recommend them as I’ve met them, and I know they will not let you down.

6 – Help to negotiate with suppliers

I have many recommended suppliers, and I always try to get the best deal I can for you, many of them I deal with on a daily basis, also I can help you work around packages they offer, it may be you want something a little different, I have years of negotiating experience, and I’m here to use that to your advantage.

7 – Mediator

Sometimes I’m needed most when people have so many ideas on how the day should be, how many guests from each side of the family should attend, weddings can sometimes cause an unease between families, but I am here to help, many times just so you can use the phrase “Colette thinks it would be best if….” As apposed to….”I don’t want to do that……”

8 – On the day help

Some brides/grooms relish the idea of planning the day, they enjoy organising and keeping things on track, this is great! But on the day you don’t want to have to worry about things arriving, things keeping to time, this takes away from you enjoying the day with your friends and family. I’m here to be a main point of contact for the bridal party with any questions they may have, I’m here to ensure everything runs smoothly and to plan, I can deal with any emergency, my rescue kit is with me on the day and it contains everything we may need…even down to having a fake cake!

9 – Working together with all the suppliers, to make your day perfect

The best thing about using the right suppliers is that we will work as a team, we all work together and help each other, and we all know exactly what we need to do, where we need to be, and how to conduct ourselves on the day, from the florist to the bridal store, we make the full experience one to remember, from the first moment you ask me to be part of the day, I’m working for you, with the help of excellent suppliers, to make the day both memorable and seamless.

10 – But you are just for the rich and famous right?

Wedding planning isn’t as expensive as you may think, and along with everything that I do, I charge a set day fee, and I tailor my full services to suit you, not the other way round. There may be just elements you want help with, or just help on the day. I always offer a free first consultation which is as short or as long as you need, I’m always upfront about costs, so please just drop me an email info@allwrappedupevents.co.uk  or pick up the phone (or text!) 07912501159.

Stress free wedding planning begins here I hope you’ve found this useful, and I hope to meet with you to discuss how I can help you make your day everything you’ve ever dreamed of.
